Scripture For Today
“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” - John 8:32 NIV
It’s easy to grow comfortable with the things that don’t challenge us and don’t push us to pursue growth. Consistency, control, and having the knowledge of what is to come all contribute to comfort. It’s often the truth that shatters that comfort, guides us to lean not to our understanding, and reminds us how much we need God.
It is here that we find the cornerstone scripture. Jesus is explaining to the Jews who believed on Him that knowing the truth and keeping His word are the path to becoming free. He shares that if they hold to His teaching, they are really His disciples. Freedom, then, is connected to knowing and living in the truth of the Lord.
Truth is more than accurate information. Truth exposes what is false, brings clarity where there has been confusion, and gives us something solid to build our lives on. The bible shares that Jesus is that cornerstone on which we build our faith and that He is the way, the truth, and the life.
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. - John 14:6 KJV
19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. - Ephesians 2:19-22 KJV
Understanding that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life helps us to see that the truth is Jesus and that believing on Him is the path to overcoming many obstacles in the world. Believing that He is the Son of God is indeed the path to discovering truth and stepping into liberty.
Fear can convince us that something bad is always about to happen. Shame can tell us that our past defines us. Insecurity can make us believe we are not enough. Bitterness can keep us tied to old wounds. But when God’s truth enters those places, it begins to challenge the stories that have kept us stuck in cycles and unable to move forward.
Knowing the truth does not mean difficult emotions disappear immediately. Nor does it mean that change will happen overnight. While the truth can instantly break chains and usher in liberty, physical restoration and healing from the lies can take time.
Freedom often grows as we continue returning to what God says and allowing His Word to reshape the way we think, the way we make decisions, and how we respond. What has been believed for years may take time to unlearn, but the truth suddenly ushers in freedom and release.
Freedom in your heart, your mind, your beliefs, and day-to-day actions comes when you keep His word and believe.
You can decide today to break the patterns of this world and walk with the truth we find in Jesus. Examine your day-to-day habits, bring them before the Lord, and ask whether they align with His Word. The more deeply you know His truth, the easier it becomes to recognize what does not belong.
Three Practical Ways To Walk Out This Word
1: Identify One Lie You Have Been Believing
Think about an area where fear, shame, insecurity, or discouragement has been speaking loudly. Write down the thought that keeps repeating itself, then ask, “Is this actually true?” Bring it before God instead of automatically accepting it.
2: Replace The Lie With Truth
Find a Scripture that speaks directly to the area where you feel stuck. Read it slowly, pray through it, and return to it throughout the day. Let God’s Word become louder than the assumption, fear, or old story you have been carrying.
3: Make One Choice That Agrees With The Truth
Freedom becomes practical when your choices begin to align with what you now believe. Speak honestly, set the boundary, forgive, ask for help, take the next step, or stop repeating the behavior that keeps reinforcing an old lie. Choose one action today that reflects the truth God is showing you.
Closing Encouragement
You do not have to remain bound to every thought, belief, or story that has shaped your past. Keep returning to what He says. Keep allowing His Word to correct, heal, and renew your mind. As the truth becomes rooted more deeply within you, freedom will be the natural result for whom the Son sets free is free indeed.
