51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” - John 6:51 NIV
Jesus is the bread of life. He is the living word. He came that we would be saved and laid down His life as a living sacrifice. Here, in John 6:51, we see the culmination of a teaching of Jesus in which he shares the purpose of His life.
He says that He is living bread. Like bread made on earth, which grows and fills our belly, Jesus was living bread meant to fill our souls and bring fulfillment and peace. His life was a living seed, wherein He willingly gave His life that we would be able to eat of Him through intimacy with the word and God’s Spirit. The disciples and many walking with him could not fathom eating His flesh, as they were looking with natural understanding.
To eat the flesh of Jesus and drink the blood is not a physical assignment that Jesus is explaining in this teaching. This is a spiritual assignment through sacrifice, an intentional covenant, and honoring His life and death through receiving in our hearts that he is indeed the living word, the bread that was broken so that we could have a direct connection to God.
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. - John 14:6 NIV
Some failed to see the spiritual implications and walked away as they leaned each one to their own understanding.
66 From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. - John 6:66 NIV
You have a chance this morning to walk with God like never before and walk in the light of His word. To come into communion through breaking the bread and drinking the wine, both representing the flesh and blood of Jesus Christ. In doing so, we become partakers in the resurrection power and grace of Jesus. He came that we would be reconciled back to the heart of God.
18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. - 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 NIV
He is the king of glory. Our hope is in Him. As we stand on the word of the Lord this morning and turn our eyes towards Jesus, we can walk clearly in the knowledge that he is the living bread. The bread of life. The one who was sent for the breaking that his life would be multiplied, and the Kingdom of Heaven would be released in the earth.
This is the benefit of walking as a Believer with Jesus. To partake in the burial, death, and resurrection power of Jesus Christ. To come into the knowledge, by faith, that nothing is beyond the power of our God. Jesus’ life bore witness that we could walk in the world and not be overwhelmed by the evil in it. He is the author and finisher of our faith. Truly, the living word sent to pave the way to salvation and restore the breach between us and our Father.
Three Practical Ways To Walk Out This Word Daily
1. Feed Your Spirit With the Word of God Daily
Just as our physical bodies need food, our spirits need consistent nourishment from the Word. Prioritize daily scripture reading and reflection, even if it’s just a few verses. Approach the Bible as more than information. It is the living Word of the Living Bread. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal Jesus through the text. Let it challenge, feed, and shape you. You are not just reading words. You are partaking of Christ.
2. Walk in Communion, Not Just Remembrance
Communion is not limited to the Lord’s Supper. It is a continual lifestyle of connection. Jesus did not just call us to remember Him occasionally. He called us to abide in Him continually. You can walk in communion by keeping your heart aligned with Him throughout the day. Talk to Him, thank Him, and honor His sacrifice with your decisions. Break the bread in prayer. Drink the cup in surrender. Live in awareness that He is with you.
3. Carry the Ministry of Reconciliation Boldly
Jesus gave His life to reconcile us to the Father. Now, we are carriers of that same mission. You can walk this out daily by extending forgiveness, sharing hope, and representing the heart of God to others. Look for opportunities to bring peace where there is conflict and truth where there is confusion. Do not shrink back. You carry resurrection power. The Bread of Life is in you to be multiplied through you.
Closing Message:
You are not walking alone. You are walking with the Bread of Heaven inside of you. Jesus is not distant or symbolic. He is present, alive, and desiring daily communion with you. Every time you choose His Word over worry, His presence over pressure, and His truth over temptation, you are partaking in the life that only He can give. Let today be a day where you walk with boldness, nourished by the living bread, and empowered by the Spirit of God to share the message of reconciliation with a world that is still hungry for hope.
