Scripture for Today
29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. - Ephesians 4:29 NIV
The Bible tells us that our words have power. Proverbs 18:21 goes on to decree more deeply that there is power in our tongues. The power of life and death:
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. - Proverbs 18:21 NIV
There is a powerful grace that God releases through our words. There are so many scriptures in the Bible that detail the power of our words, our decrees, and our spoken beliefs. So the cornerstone scripture for today absolutely confirms that corrupt communication that proceeds out of our mouths has an impact on those who hear it.
Furthermore, the words that proceed out of our mouths are actually a reflection of what is in our hearts:
45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. - Lule 6:45 KJV
These scriptures all show us that there is incredible power and what we say and how we say it. that the life that we speak or the death that we speak is going to produce fruit. So let no words that come from you be words that tear down, that undermine, and that make someone feel less than. Any corrupt or poor-natured communication is an open door to having fruit that nobody wants.
Commit your heart today to fully speaking life and every opportunity. In every situation, speaking life and speaking empowering language is the key to positively affecting change within yourself, within your life, and within the lives of others. The very beings of those around you can depend greatly on how much life you speak day in and day out. Difficult situations can be made easier with life-giving words.
When difficult situations entice you to speak negatively, or to observe something negatively, remember that everything we speak and the words we release are for the edifying of someone else, that we may minister grace to their hearts.
Three Practical Ways To Walk Out This Word Daily
1. Speak Words That Build Others Up
Paul exhorts us to avoid unwholesome talk and instead use words that encourage and strengthen others. Proverbs 18:21 teaches that the tongue has the power of life and death. Choose daily to speak life into those around you, offering words of hope, kindness, and faith instead of criticism or negativity.
2. Practice Self-Control in Communication
Before responding in conversations, pause and consider whether your words align with God’s will. James 1:19 reminds us to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. Practicing this discipline helps prevent careless speech and allows the Spirit to guide your responses.
3. Intentionally Encourage Someone Daily
Make it a goal each day to bless at least one person with uplifting words. Hebrews 3:13 tells us to encourage one another daily so that no one’s heart becomes hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. A simple word of encouragement, whether in person, through a call, or even a message, can bring strength to someone’s faith walk.
Closing Encouragement
Your words carry eternal weight, and God calls you to steward them wisely. By speaking life, practicing self-control, and intentionally encouraging others, you reflect Christ’s love and build up the body of believers. Let your speech be an offering of grace that points others to the goodness of God.
