Scripture For Today
21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” - John 20:21 NIV
There are moments in life when everything feels uncertain. You may find yourself wondering what God is doing, where He is leading you, or how the next part of your journey will unfold. It can feel like standing in a doorway with one foot in the familiar and the other reaching for what God has promised, unsure of what the next step will bring. In these moments, the words Jesus spoke to His disciples in John 20 carry a power that reaches into every heart that longs for direction, purpose, and peace.
The disciples were gathered behind locked doors. Fear surrounded them, confusion lingered, and they were unsure of what the future held. The world as they knew it had been shaken. Jesus had died. Their hope seemed to have been buried with Him. They were waiting, wondering, and wrestling with their emotions. They did not know how to move forward. It is into this very space that Jesus stepped.
He did not knock. He did not announce Himself. He simply appeared among them and spoke the words every weary soul longs to hear: Peace be with you.
This was not a casual greeting. It was a supernatural impartation. It was the peace that only God can give. Not the peace that comes from having everything figured out. Not the peace that depends on circumstances changing. This was the peace that comes from the very presence of Jesus. A peace that strengthens, steadies, and anchors the heart even in uncertainty.
Jesus then followed this gift of peace with a powerful commission. As the Father has sent me, I am sending you. He was telling them that their story was not over. Their mission had not ended. Their purpose had not dissolved with the shaking of their world. Instead, He was inviting them into the continuation of God’s plan. He was sending them out with intention, with purpose, and with the same authority that the Father had given Him.
It is important to notice the order. First peace, then purpose. Jesus did not send them before settling their hearts. He did not push them into their assignment while fear was still gripping them. He filled them with His peace so they could walk in the boldness of their calling without being crushed by the weight of their past or the uncertainty of their future.
This is still His pattern for you today.
Before God sends you, He settles you. Before He calls you forward, He quiets the storm inside you. Before He positions you, He prepares your heart. The same Jesus who stepped through locked doors to reach His disciples is the same Jesus who steps into your troubled thoughts, your hidden worries, and your silent prayers to remind you of His peace.
Think about the way Jesus lived His life. He was sent by the Father to bring light into darkness, healing into broken places, truth into confusion, and hope into hearts that felt forgotten. Everywhere He went, something changed. Everywhere He walked, heaven touched the earth. When Jesus says, I am sending you, He is declaring that the same power, the same Spirit, and the same divine purpose rests on you.
You are not sent in your own strength. You are not sent with shallow confidence. You are sent with His peace, His authority, and His presence. Your purpose is not based on your ability. It is grounded in His calling.
Maybe you feel like the disciples did. Maybe some doors in your life feel locked. Maybe fear has been whispering in the background. Maybe you are unsure about where God is leading you. Yet Jesus speaks into all of it. Peace be with you. And then He speaks purpose. I am sending you.
God sends you into your family to be a light.
He sends you into your job to be a reflection of His grace.
He sends you into your friendships to be a carrier of His peace.
He sends you into your dreams with His strength going before you.
He sends you into every place knowing that His presence covers you.
You do not walk alone. You do not speak alone. You do not step into anything alone. You are sent with the peace of Jesus and the authority of heaven.
Whatever God is calling you to do in this season, know this: you are equipped. You are chosen. You are prepared. You are strengthened. And the same peace that steadied the disciples is the peace that steadies you as you move forward in faith.
Three Practical Ways To Walk Out This Word Daily
1: Receive His Peace Before You Move
Start your day by creating space for God to speak peace into your heart. Sit quietly with Him. Pray. Read a verse slowly. Invite His presence to calm every anxious thought. Isaiah 26:3 reminds us that God keeps in perfect peace those whose minds are stayed on Him. Let Him settle your spirit before you take your next steps.
2: Embrace Your Calling With Confidence
Ask God daily to show you where He is sending you. It may not be a distant mission field. It may be your home, your workplace, or a conversation waiting to happen. Ephesians 2:10 says you are His workmanship, created for good works prepared in advance. Walk with confidence knowing that wherever you go, God has already gone before you.
3: Carry the Presence of God Into Every Space
Be intentional about bringing peace, gentleness, and grace wherever you are placed. Your presence is an assignment. Matthew 5:16 encourages believers to let their light shine so that others will see God reflected in their lives. Make it your daily practice to represent Jesus with kindness, humility, and strength.
Closing Encouragement
May your heart rest in the peace Jesus has spoken over you. May you feel the assurance of His presence settling every fear and calming every concern. You are not walking into this world alone. You are sent by the One who knows you, loves you, and equips you fully. Step forward with confidence today, knowing that His peace surrounds you and His purpose guides every step you take.
