Scripture For Today
Look to the Lord and his strength. Seek his face always. – 1 Chronicles 16:11 NIV
There was once a woman who had grown weary from trying to hold everything together. She was faithful, responsible, and prayerful, but life had stretched her thin. One afternoon, she sat in her car and whispered, “God, I don’t know how to do this anymore.” Tears welled in her eyes as she sat in the stillness. She turned on the radio, and a worship song began to play about seeking the face of God.
In that quiet moment, she felt something shift. Her circumstances had not changed, but peace began to fill the space that fear had occupied. She realized what her soul had been craving was not more strength of her own but a fresh awareness of His presence.
This is the heart of 1 Chronicles 16:11. David spoke these words as a song of thanksgiving after the Ark of the Covenant—the symbol of God’s presence—was brought to Jerusalem. It was a moment of great celebration, but it was also a reminder. Even in times of victory and rejoicing, the people were called to continually seek the Lord. “Look to the Lord and his strength. Seek his face always.” These are not passive words. They are an invitation to live in active dependence on the One who never grows weary.
We often try to handle life through our own understanding, working harder, pushing through exhaustion, and striving to manage every detail. But the strength that comes from self-reliance will eventually run out. The strength that comes from God, however, renews, restores, and sustains. Isaiah 40:31 reminds us that “those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.” Seeking His face means more than asking for help when things go wrong. It means continually turning your heart toward His presence, listening for His guidance, and resting in His love.
To seek His face is to desire Him, not just what He can do for you. When we seek God’s face, we pursue intimacy with Him. It is the difference between seeking a blessing and seeking the Blesser. It means saying, “Lord, I want to know You more,” even when life is uncertain. David knew that strength for the journey was found in relationship, not routine. It was not about checking off prayers but walking in continual connection with the living God.
When we look to the Lord, we shift our gaze from the weight of our circumstances to the greatness of His power. Our hearts find rest because we no longer carry the burden alone. The woman in the car that day discovered that her peace returned when she stopped trying to summon strength from herself and started seeking the face of the One who strengthens her. God’s presence doesn’t remove every battle, but it reminds us that we are not fighting them alone.
Three Practical Ways To Walk Out This Word Daily
1. Begin each day by looking to the Lord before anything else.
Before you reach for your phone or review your list of tasks, take a few quiet moments to center your heart in His presence. Whisper a prayer such as, “Lord, I look to You today for strength, wisdom, and peace.” Psalm 121:1–2 says, “I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord.” By beginning your day this way, you train your spirit to seek Him first, not last. Over time, you will notice that His peace begins to guide your decisions, and His strength meets you before your weaknesses do.
2. Seek His face through continual conversation.
Seeking God’s face always means inviting Him into every moment, not just your morning prayer time. Talk to Him throughout the day. In your car, while cooking, during meetings, or on a walk. Simple prayers like “Lord, guide me,” or “Thank You for being with me,” build a rhythm of connection. Philippians 4:6 encourages us, “In every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” This posture of communication keeps your heart aligned with His and opens the door for peace that surpasses understanding.
3. Draw from His strength when you feel empty.
There will be days when your energy is low, and your emotions feel spent. In those moments, pause and remind yourself that His strength is available to you. Pray Psalm 28:7, “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me.” Take a few deep breaths and envision yourself being renewed by His presence. Sometimes strength looks like resting in His care rather than pushing through on your own. Learning to draw from His strength instead of striving in your own keeps your spirit grounded and refreshed.
Closing Encouragement
You do not have to live weary or overwhelmed. The same God who strengthened David, who guided Israel, and who met the woman in her moment of surrender, is near to you right now. His strength is available, His presence is constant, and His heart delights when you seek His face. Every time you look to Him, you are reminded that your help does not come from your effort but from His endless grace. So today, lift your eyes, quiet your soul, and seek His face always. The Lord will meet you there, and His strength will carry you through every season of your life.
