Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. - Matthew 5:9 NIV
Jesus is the son of God and is known in scripture as the Prince of Peace. We see this in Isaiah 9:6:
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. - Isaiah 9:6 NIV
Those who decide to become peacemakers are walking in the characteristics and identity of Jesus Christ. They choose to step between opposing parties and bring about cooperation, love, and understanding. Their hearts are for the peace of God to reign, and their actions are a sacrifice to unify and expand each other and the kingdom of God.
In this, Jesus states that the peacemakers are blessed, for they shall be called the children of God. Their hearts for and commitment to peace make them a part of the divine family of God. To take on the nature and the heart of the Father is to walk in His precepts and step into the inheritance of being a child of God. The peacemakers are indeed blessed.
They demonstrate a willingness and desire to walk in the way of the Lord and to be like Jesus in ushering in peace. Their hearts and their minds operate differently and apart from the chaos of this world. Their hearts and their minds are aligned to facilitate a peaceful and settled mind in the hearts of the believers in their lives.
They have the courage to step into conflict and bring wisdom and logic. They aren't afraid of getting inside the messy middle. They meet people where they are and courageously face the beasts of disagreement, opposition, disdain, and warfare with God's love.
Three Ways To Walk Out This Blessing Today:
1. Stand in the Middle with Grace
Practice Spirit-Led Mediation in Conflict
Peacemakers don’t avoid conflict—they enter it prayerfully and purposefully. When tensions arise between loved ones, coworkers, or community members, choose to be a bridge. Invite both sides to listen, speak with respect, and seek common ground. Ask the Holy Spirit for discernment and calm, and remember: you’re not there to fix everyone but to reflect Jesus, the Prince of Peace, who meets people in their mess and leads them toward unity.
2. Speak the Truth in Love
Use Your Words to Build, Not Break
Being a peacemaker doesn’t mean avoiding hard conversations. It means speaking with love, not with heat. Whether correcting a friend, sharing a biblical truth, or addressing an offense, filter your words through grace and compassion. Let Ephesians 4:29 guide your tongue: build others up according to their needs. When your words are wrapped in humility and truth, peace has room to grow.
3. Cultivate an Atmosphere of Peace at Home
Turn Your Space into a Sanctuary
Peace starts in your heart—and overflows into your environment. Create a home or personal space that reflects the peace of God: play worship music, light a candle during prayer, speak blessings over your family, and pray aloud for calm in times of tension. Let those who enter your life or home sense the stillness of God’s presence. When peace rules your atmosphere, you offer others a glimpse of the Kingdom.
Each of these practices allows believers to actively embody Christ’s nature as peacemakers—confronting chaos not with fear, but with faith, wisdom, and love.
