Today's Scripture
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another." — John 13:34 (NIV)
Love is at the core of everything Jesus taught. In John 13:34, He gives us a clear command: to love one another as He has loved us. This kind of love goes beyond mere words or surface-level actions—it is selfless, enduring, and rooted in goodwill toward others. When we love as Jesus loves, we reflect His light in a world that desperately needs it.
Choosing love and goodwill in our day-to-day lives can have a transformative impact on ourselves and those around us. A sour or negative outlook can weigh heavily on the heart, creating barriers in relationships and diminishing joy. Proverbs 17:22 reminds us, “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” Negativity not only affects our emotional health but also the way we interact with others, potentially closing doors to connection and reconciliation.
By contrast, love has the power to heal and restore. 1 Peter 4:8 encourages us, “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” When we approach others with grace and goodwill, we create space for unity and peace, even in challenging situations.
Jesus’ example shows us that love isn’t always easy, but it is always worth it. Romans 12:21 urges us, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Even when faced with negativity or opposition, choosing love reflects the heart of Christ and brings glory to God.
Three Practical Ways to Walk This Out Today:
Speak Words of Kindness: Make an intentional effort to uplift others through encouraging words. Whether it’s complimenting a coworker or offering a kind word to a stranger, let your speech reflect love and goodwill.
Practice Patience and Grace: When faced with a frustrating situation or difficult person, pause and choose to respond with patience. Remember Jesus’ love for you, and extend that grace to others.
Perform an Act of Service: Show love through action by helping someone in need, whether it’s lending a hand, listening to their concerns, or simply sharing a smile.
As you walk in love today, remember that each act of kindness and goodwill reflects the love of Christ. Let His love guide your words, actions, and outlook, bringing light and hope to everyone you encounter.
