Jesus Christ, Our Beginning and Our Blueprint
Today’s Scripture:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
— John 1:1 (NIV)
Before the foundation of the world, before the stars were hung in the sky or the oceans were formed, Jesus Christ was there. He was not an afterthought or a last-minute solution. He was, and is, the Word. John 1:1 anchors our faith in the truth that Jesus was present in the beginning, not only with God but as God. Everything that was made was created through Him. There is no part of creation untouched by His presence and power.
John continues in verses 2 and 3 by saying, “He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made. Without him nothing was made that has been made.” This passage firmly establishes Jesus as the divine agent of creation. The same Word who spoke life into the world took on human form and dwelt among us. In John 1:14 we read, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” In doing so, He became a living, breathing demonstration of God’s will and nature.
Jesus is more than a historical figure or spiritual guide. He is the blueprint for our lives. As the Word made flesh, He came to show us how to walk with God, how to live by faith, how to love without condition, and how to submit to the will of the Father in every circumstance. Hebrews 12:2 declares, “Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” He is not only the starting point of our faith but the one who brings it to completion.
When we follow Jesus, we are not guessing how to please God. We are walking in the footsteps of the One who lived it perfectly. Jesus’s life on earth was marked by obedience, humility, truth, and power. Philippians 2:6-8 reminds us that Jesus, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage. Instead, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death on a cross. This obedience, this total surrender, is the example we are called to follow.
As the Word, Jesus also reveals the heart of God. When He spoke, He spoke with authority and compassion. His words gave life, healed the sick, comforted the brokenhearted, and rebuked the proud. To know the Word is to know Him. And to know Him is to know the Father. In John 14:9, Jesus says, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.” Everything He said and did reflected the character and love of God.
In a world filled with shifting opinions, ever-changing values, and uncertain paths, Jesus remains constant. Hebrews 13:8 assures us that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” When we root ourselves in the Word, we are anchoring ourselves in unchanging truth. The Word is not simply ink on paper. It is alive and active. It discerns our hearts, guides our steps, and reveals our purpose.
When we face uncertainty, we can remember that the One who began it all is also the One who finishes it. Revelation 22:13 declares, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” This is our confidence. This is our assurance. Jesus is not just the start of our faith journey. He is the One who walks with us each step of the way and carries us across the finish line.
To live by the Word is to live by Christ. To study His words, meditate on His life, and follow His example is the way we grow in faith and deepen our walk with God. He has already shown us the way. Now we are invited to follow.
Three Practical Ways to Seek the Will of God Daily and Walk Out This Scripture:
Begin Each Day in the Word
Start every morning with Scripture. Read a passage, meditate on its meaning, and ask the Holy Spirit to help you live it out. As you do, you align your heart with Jesus, the Living Word.Follow Jesus’s Example in Your Actions
Ask yourself daily, “What would Jesus do in this situation?” Whether in conversations, decisions, or how you treat others, use the life of Jesus as your guide and model.Invite the Word to Shape Your Thinking
Let the truth of Scripture renew your mind. When fear, doubt, or confusion arise, return to what the Word says about who you are and who God is. Trust that Jesus, the Word made flesh, is with you and for you.
Jesus Christ is the Word, eternal and unchanging. He was there in the beginning, and He will be there in the end. When we walk with Him, we are walking in the will and wisdom of God. Let us root ourselves in His truth and follow Him with boldness and joy.
