Scripture For Today
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.” - 1 Peter 5:6 NIV
There are seasons when you know you have done the work, prayed the prayers, remained faithful, and still find yourself waiting. You may know what you are capable of. You may even sense where God is taking you. Yet the opportunity, recognition, breakthrough, or next season has not arrived the way you expected.
Peter reminds us that there is a posture for these moments: humility under the mighty hand of God.
Humility does not mean thinking less of yourself, hiding your gifts, or pretending that what God has placed inside you does not matter. It means trusting God enough to surrender the timing, the outcome, and the need to make everything happen for yourself.
You can know that you are called and still allow God to determine when and how the next door opens. That can be difficult when waiting feels like being overlooked. It is easy to look around and wonder why someone else seems to be moving ahead while you are still standing in a place you thought you would have outgrown by now.
But God’s timing is not evidence that He has forgotten you. Some seasons are doing work within you that will matter when you arrive at the place you have been praying for. Notice that Peter says to humble yourself under God’s mighty hand.
The hand you are submitting your life to is not weak. God is able to open doors, change circumstances, create opportunities, restore what was lost, and position you in places you could never force your way into on your own.
And there is another promise in this verse: He may lift you up in due time.
There is a due time. You do not have to rush it, manipulate it, or exhaust yourself trying to prove that you deserve it. Your responsibility is to remain faithful with what God has placed in front of you while trusting Him with what comes next.
Three Practical Ways To Walk Out This Word
1: Release Your Timeline To God
Think about the area where you feel most impatient right now. Tell God honestly what you hoped would have happened by now, and then surrender the timeline to Him. Pray, “Lord, I trust Your timing even when I do not understand it. Help me be faithful where I am.”
2: Stay Faithful Without Striving To Be Seen
Do what is yours to do today without constantly measuring whether anyone notices. Keep developing your gifts, honoring your commitments, serving well, and showing up with integrity. You do not have to force recognition. Let your focus remain on faithfulness rather than proving yourself.
3: Trust God With Your Elevation
When you feel tempted to compare your progress with someone else’s, remind yourself that God knows how to position you. Celebrate what He is doing for others without assuming their timing says anything about yours. Ask Him to prepare you for whatever He is preparing for you.
Closing Encouragement
If you are in a season of waiting, you have not been forgotten. God sees the work no one applauds, the prayers no one hears, the growth no one recognizes, and the faithfulness that feels hidden.
You do not have to lift yourself into the next season. Stay close to God, remain humble, and continue doing what He has placed in your hands. When the time is right, the same mighty hand you surrendered to is fully capable of lifting you.
