Blessed Are The Poor In Spirit
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. - Matthew 5:3 NIV
When overwhelming sadness is your companion and it seems like your hope is being denied, the glory of the Lord becomes your companion. His Spirit becomes your comforter. The name of the Lord becomes your defense.
Throughout scripture, we see how the glory of God has accompanied the downtrodden and the poor in spirit. We see how the glory pursued Ruth who was a widow and lost her husband (Ruth 1-4). We see how the glory pursued Gideon as he was hiding food from his enemies in the wine press (Judges 6). We see the glory of God that was with Abram and Sarai as the Lord promised them an heir in their old age (Genesis 15:4 NIV).
When they thought it was too late, God told Abram that he would be the father of nations and that Sarai would bear him a son. Their names were later changed to Abraham and Sarah in Genesis 17:5-16.
The Kingdom of Heaven is for the believer who takes God into his heart and believes in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The faith to hold on to the promises of God in every season, good and bad, is what positions us as believers to receive and expand the kingdom of heaven in the earth.
The cornerstone scripture shows us that God isn’t just reserved for the good, perfect, and happy Christian. God is there with us through the celebrations and through the hard times when we are lowly in spirit.
Psalm 34:18 States:
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. (NIV)
When we feel like we are at our worst and want to isolate ourselves, God shows us through these scriptures that He is with us and that he is our hope in every season. We are not alone, and through the good times and the bad, we have a righteous God who loves us and will not forsake us.
Three Ways To Walk Out This Scripture Today:
Remember that God is our hope and that He has promised that he will never leave us nor forsake us. Hold on to that promise that wherever you are and regardless of how bad it gets, God is with you.
Lift up your head to the Hills from which your help comes from for your help comes from the Lord. (Psalm 121:1-2) Lifting up your head is not just a spiritual weapon. It is scientifically proven that lifting your head has many positive mental, physical, and emotional effects on your mind and body.
Receive the blessing today and speak this over your life when times of sadness come. When you are feeling overwhelmed and lowly in spirit, remember this scripture. Speak this scripture over your heart and pray this scripture over others.
