Scripture For Today
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” - Galatians 5:22–23 NIV
God does not ask you to transform yourself by striving harder, pretending you are stronger than you are, or trying to perform a perfect Christian life. This passage points to the work of the Holy Spirit within you. Just as healthy fruit grows from a living tree, Christlike character grows as you remain connected to God and learn to walk by His Spirit.
The fruit Paul describes is not merely a list of qualities to admire. It is the character of Jesus becoming visible in ordinary life: love in difficult relationships, joy that remains even in hard seasons, peace when circumstances are uncertain, patience when people or answers take time, kindness in the way you speak, goodness in your choices, faithfulness in your commitments, gentleness in your responses, and self-control when temptation or emotion is strong.
You may look at this list and immediately notice where you feel weak. Perhaps patience runs thin, peace feels far away, self-control feels difficult, or gentleness is hard when you have been hurt. Do not let that awareness become shame. Let it become an invitation. God already knows where you need growth, and He is not discouraged by the process. He is present with you, patiently forming His fruit in you over time.
The word “fruit” is singular, reminding us that these qualities belong together as the Spirit’s work in a life surrendered to Christ. You do not have to become everything at once. You can come to God today and ask Him to grow one area of your heart while trusting Him to continue His work in all the others.
Three Practical Ways To Walk Out This Word
1: Ask For One Specific Fruit
Choose one quality you most need today: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, or self-control. Pray simply, “Holy Spirit, grow this in me today.” Then watch for one moment in which you can respond differently because of God’s help.
2: Pause Before Reacting
When frustration, temptation, pressure, or hurt rises, take a moment before responding. Breathe and ask, “What fruit of the Spirit is needed here?” It may be patience instead of anger, gentleness instead of harshness, self-control instead of impulse, or peace instead of panic. Invite God into that moment and take the next faithful step.
3: Notice God’s Quiet Growth
At the end of the day, reflect on one small sign of growth. Perhaps you paused instead of reacting, spoke with more kindness, chose honesty, remained faithful to a commitment, or found peace during a stressful moment. Thank God for the fruit He is growing. Small changes are often evidence of His patient work within you.
Closing Encouragement
You are not alone in becoming more like Christ. The Holy Spirit is with you, lovingly producing new life in you. Keep returning to God, keep offering Him your heart, and keep taking one faithful step at a time. In His presence, love, joy, peace, and every other fruit of the Spirit can grow in ways that bless both you and the people around you.

The fruit of the Spirit helped me to see and overcome the lies that had me bound. Each of them caused me to clench my heart and hands on something I thought I had to have, but each ended up giving me the opposite of what I had hoped for.
A huge part of cultivating the fruit of the Spirit in our lives, is getting rid of the proverbial weeds. Clenched hands and hearts are not able to receive.
