Scripture For Today
For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this. - Esther 4:14 NIV
There are moments in life that feel heavier than others. Times when you sense that what you choose to do, or not do, carries more weight than usual. Esther found herself in one of those moments. She had been brought from obscurity into the palace, from an ordinary life into a royal position.
On the surface, it could have looked like favor and comfort alone. Yet beneath it all, God was weaving a purpose she could not fully see at first.
In this verse, Esther’s cousin Mordecai speaks with both honesty and faith. He does not shy away from the reality of the danger. He acknowledges that remaining silent would have consequences. At the same time, he expresses a quiet confidence that God’s plans will not fail. Relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place if she refuses, but she has been given an opportunity to be part of what God is doing.
Then comes the gentle, searching question. Who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this? Mordecai invites Esther to see her life through a different lens. Her position is not just about comfort. It is about calling. Her story is not just about how far she has come. It is about how God might want to work through her right where she is.
This question has echoed through history because it speaks into the hearts of all who belong to God. You may not stand in a palace or hold a royal title, but you have been placed where you are on purpose. Your relationships, your work, your neighborhood, your church, your daily interactions, all hold moments where God’s heart can be reflected.
There are conversations that need courage, people who need encouragement, and situations that need someone willing to show up with faith and love. Sometimes, like Esther, the path is not simple or safe. It may ask something costly of your comfort, your time, or your sense of security.
Yet Esther’s story reminds us that God is already present in those places before we see them clearly. He had not abandoned His people. He was working behind the scenes, even in the details of Esther’s past, to position her for this moment.
In the same way, God is able to take what seems ordinary in your life and use it for something meaningful. The skills you have, the experiences you have walked through, even the pain you have endured, can become part of how He shines His light through you. It is also important to notice that Mordecai’s words hold both urgency and assurance.
If Esther chose silence, God would still bring deliverance, but she would miss the blessing of walking in the very purpose for which she had been placed there. God’s plans are not fragile, but He graciously invites His people to participate in them. Saying yes to Him is not about earning His love.
It is about stepping into the good works He has prepared in advance for us to do. Jesus, our Savior, stepped fully into His purpose for such a time as this when He went to the cross. He did not turn away from the cost. He embraced the call to lay down His life so that salvation and deliverance would come to all who believe.
Because of Him, we are not only forgiven but invited into God’s ongoing work in the world. His courage becomes our example. His Spirit becomes our strength. His love becomes the reason we say yes when God places opportunities in front of us.
If you feel small or unsure about your place, let this verse speak gently to your heart. You do not have to see the whole picture. You only need to be willing to listen and respond as God leads. There may be a person you are uniquely positioned to encourage, a situation where your voice matters, or a step of obedience that only you can take in your current season.
You are not where you are by accident.
Ask God to help you see your life through His eyes. Ask Him to show you where He is inviting you to trust Him more deeply, to speak when it would be easier to stay silent, to act when it would be easier to step back. As you lean into His leading, you will find that He is already there, already prepared, already faithful.
Three Practical Ways To Walk Out This Word Daily
1. Ask God About Your “Such A Time As This.”
Set aside a quiet moment and ask God to show you where He may be calling you to step forward in this season. It could be in your family, your workplace, your church, or your community. Listen for any gentle nudges or recurring thoughts that align with His character. Write them down and pray over them, inviting Him to guide your next steps.
2. Take One Small Courageous Step
You do not have to see the whole road to begin walking in your calling. Choose one concrete action that reflects obedience today, a conversation to have, an encouragement to share, a need to meet, or a stand to take. Offer that step to God and ask Him to use it. Over time, these small choices build a life that responds to Him with courage.
3. Remember God Is Already At Work
When you feel pressure or fear about what obedience might cost, remind yourself that God’s plans do not rest on your shoulders alone. He is already moving, and He will continue to move. Thank Him that He invites you to join what He is doing rather than asking you to carry it by yourself. This perspective frees you to act in faith without being crushed by fear.
Closing Encouragement
You are living in a specific time, in a specific place, with a story that God knows intimately. He is not surprised by where you are. He has purpose woven into your days. As you listen for His voice and respond in faith, even when it feels costly, you may find that you are exactly where you need to be for such a time as this. Trust that He is with you, strengthening you, and working through you in ways that reach further than you can see.
