Be Ready to Share: The Power of the Gospel
Acts 8:35 (NIV): “Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.”
The story of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch is a powerful reminder of how hearing the gospel can instantly transform a life. The eunuch was searching for truth, and when Philip explained the Scriptures, the eunuch’s heart was stirred, leading him to immediate action.
Let’s read Acts 8:34-38 (KJV) in full:
34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?
35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.
36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
This moment reveals the supernatural power of God’s Word: when shared, it has the ability to awaken faith and bring people into salvation. Romans 10:17 confirms this truth: “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
We are called to be ready at all times to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. A single conversation could change the trajectory of someone’s life, just as Philip’s obedience led to the eunuch’s salvation.
Faith Comes by Hearing
The eunuch had been reading Isaiah, but he needed guidance to understand its meaning. Once Philip shared the gospel, the eunuch’s heart was awakened to the truth, and he eagerly asked to be baptized.
This illustrates why it is so crucial for believers to share the Word—it plants the seed of faith in others. Romans 1:16 declares, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth.”
Many people today are like the eunuch—searching for answers but unsure where to find them. When we boldly proclaim the truth, we become vessels through which God brings revelation and transformation.
Be Ready to Share the Gospel
Philip was prepared. When the Holy Spirit led him to the eunuch, he was ready to explain the Scriptures with clarity. 1 Peter 3:15 instructs us: “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”
Sharing the gospel isn’t about having all the right words—it’s about being available and obedient. God will use our willingness to speak life into someone’s situation. Even a short conversation about Jesus can plant a seed that grows into a lifelong relationship with Him.
You Can Change Someone’s Life
Just as Philip’s obedience led to the eunuch’s baptism, we too can be catalysts for life-changing encounters with Christ. The Holy Spirit orchestrates divine appointments, and we must be sensitive to His leading.
Isaiah 55:11 says, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”
Every time we share the gospel, we may not see immediate results, but God’s Word always produces fruit. Every seed sown has the potential to grow into salvation.
