Scripture For Today
“Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.” - James 5:7–8 NIV
James spoke these words to believers facing suffering, injustice, and pressure. He did not tell them that hardship was insignificant or that relief would come immediately. Instead, he gave them a picture they understood: a farmer who works faithfully, waits through the seasons, and trusts God for the rain and the harvest.
The farmer does have responsibilities. He prepares the soil, plants the seed, protects the crop, and continues working. But he cannot force growth or control the timing of the rain. In the same way, you are called to obey God, do what is right, pray, serve, and persevere. But you are not responsible for controlling every outcome or rushing God’s timing.
Patience Is Active Faith
Biblical patience is not passive resignation. It is steadfast trust while you wait. The farmer’s waiting includes expectation, work, and endurance. The autumn rains helped begin the growing process, while the spring rains helped prepare the crop for harvest.
You may be waiting for healing, justice, provision, reconciliation, direction, or a breakthrough in someone’s life. During that waiting, God may be developing endurance, deepening your dependence on Him, protecting you from a premature answer, or preparing circumstances you cannot yet see.
“Stand firm” means to strengthen your heart so that delay, disappointment, or opposition does not move you away from God. The return of Christ is the believer’s ultimate hope: suffering is temporary, God’s justice is certain, and the final harvest belongs to Him.
Three Practical Ways To Walk Out This Word
1: Separate Your Work From God’s Timing
Ask, “What is mine to do, and what must I leave with God?” Do the work He has given you: make the call, submit the application, seek counsel, apologize, serve, or pray, then release the outcome and timing to Him.
2: Strengthen Your Heart Daily
When discouragement rises, return to scripture, worship, prayer, and trustworthy Christian community. Do not allow isolation to interpret your waiting for you. God often strengthens us through His Word and through people who remind us of His faithfulness.
3: Keep Planting Good Seeds
Continue doing what is right even when the results are not visible. Encourage someone, remain honest, care for your responsibilities, show compassion, and stay faithful in prayer. A season of waiting is not a season of uselessness; God can be working through every faith-filled decision.

You may not be able to see the harvest yet, but that does not mean nothing is happening. Trust the God who governs the seasons, strengthen your heart, and continue faithfully through the waiting. The Lord’s coming is your assurance that injustice will not last forever, your labor is not wasted, and God’s purposes will reach their appointed fulfillment.
