Scripture for Today
31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. - Matthew 25:31-32
God is calling us to be like Christ. To have the heart of the Father is to do for the least of these that are in his kingdom: to feed the hungry, to clothe the poor, and care for the widow. In this chapter of scripture, the Lord is telling parables, and in this portion of those parables, the Lord speaks of what it will be like when the Son of Man comes in all his glory.
We can see that when Jesus comes that he is separating the goat from the sheep. Those who did not have the heart of the Father and those who do have the heart of the Father. Thee sheep that have the heart of God are those who did for the least of these and in doing so did it for the Lord. The separation of those who are loving, generous, and have the heart of Christ from those who don't is so key here.
The divide between the heart of God and the heart of this world is very clear. He gives us this. He shows us that we don't have to think like this world. We do not have to be conformed to this world. We can decide to have the heart of Christ, to love those around us, and to pour out generously upon the meek, the needy, and those who just can't fight for themselves.
To stand and to know that this may be your last day on earth changes things. If you knew that after this moment, after this day, that you may not have another, how would you shift your day? How would you show up differently? How would you bless so many people, knowing that today may be your last? What would that do to change you and effectively change others?
These are the questions to ask yourself today as a means of guiding your feet and your heart to be more like Jesus Christ.
Three Practical Ways To Walk Out This Word Daily
1. Live Each Day with Eternal Perspective
Remember that Jesus will return and all nations will stand before Him. This truth should shape daily decisions. Choose actions that honor Christ, love others, and reflect His righteousness. Colossians 3:2 reminds us to set our minds on things above, not on earthly things. By keeping eternity in focus, you remain prepared for His coming.
2. Serve Others with a Shepherd’s Heart
The passage shows that separation will be based on how lives reflect the heart of Christ. Look for ways to serve those around you with humility and compassion. Matthew 25 later illustrates this through feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and visiting the sick. Each act of service reflects God’s love and aligns your life with Christ’s example.
3. Remain Faithful in Obedience
Faithfulness is a marker of the sheep who follow the Shepherd. Stay consistent in prayer, worship, and obedience to God’s Word. John 10:27 says, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” Let obedience to God’s voice guide you daily, demonstrating that you belong to Christ.
Closing Encouragement
The day is coming when the Son of Man will sit on His throne and all will be revealed. Live with the assurance that when you walk faithfully, love others, and obey His Word, you are counted among His sheep. Let your life testify to the hope you have in Christ, preparing your heart for the day of His glorious return.
